However, both of them were not given a chance together in the team for a long time. There can be many reasons for this. At present, if seen in the ongoing ODI series against Australia, Kuldeep and Chahal are part of the Indian team. Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav is constantly getting opportunities. Whereas Chahal has to sit on the bench. Why has Kuldeep Yadav been preferred over Yuzvendra Chahal? This has been disclosed by the head coach of Team India, Rahul Dravid himself.
Head coach explained the reason
Yuzvendra Chahal played ODI against New Zealand in January. Since then he was not taken care of. India has year 2023 I have played 8 ODIs so far. Kuldeep Yadav has been a part of the playing XI of all these matches. Team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid also considers wrist spinners more effective in the middle overs. The Indian team has options like Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal as spin bowling. However, in the last few matches, the team management has given more preference to Kuldeep Yadav than Yuzvendra Chahal.
Indian team head coach Rahul Dravid says that it will be Kuldeep Yadav who will be given more chances. Speaking on the eve of the match on March 21, he said, ‘Obviously being a wrist spinner is a big advantage if he is bowling well. Taking wickets in the middle overs is important. A wrist spinner gives an opportunity to attack and take wickets in the middle overs. This is the reason why Kuldeep is being continuously given opportunities. He further said, ‘We have a great bowler in Yuzvendra Chahal. But it is his misfortune that he has to sit outside. At the moment, we believe in giving continuous opportunities to people before taking a decision and Kuldeep is the one who is getting opportunities.
