The swearing-in ceremony will take place today in the two northeastern states of Nagaland and Meghalaya. Neiphiu Rio of NDPP and Conrad Sangma of NPP will take oath as Chief Minister of Nagaland and Meghalaya respectively.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reach Kohima, the capital of Nagaland, today on a three-state tour of the Northeast. He will attend the swearing-in ceremony of the newly formed government of Nagaland and Meghalaya here. In Nagaland, the government will be formed under the leadership of Neiphiu Rio of NDPP and in Meghalaya under the leadership of NPP leader Conrad Sangma. PM will reach Tripura’s capital Agartala on Wednesday.
In Nagaland, the NDPP and BJP alliance has made a comeback in this time’s assembly elections. The Prime Minister will attend the swearing-in ceremony of Neiphiu Rio’s government here. After this, PM Modi will participate in the swearing-in ceremony of the BJP alliance with the NPP in Meghalaya. On Tuesday, the Prime Minister will stay in Guwahati. During this, he will meet BJP ministers and senior leaders here. The PM will travel to Tripura’s capital Agartala on Wednesday morning, where he will attend the swearing-in ceremony of the BJP alliance.
Government without opposition in Nagaland
This time in Nagaland, the maximum number of political parties contested and won the elections. Despite this, Nagaland is moving towards a government without opposition. Almost all parties have extended unconditional support to the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party-BJP alliance. The NDPP-BJP alliance won 37 seats in the 60-member assembly in the recently concluded Nagaland elections. Both the NDPP and the BJP had projected 72-year-old Rio as their chief ministerial candidate since the start of the election campaign.
In Meghalaya, the NPP-led coalition with the support of 45 MLAs, including two from the BJP, has staked claim to form the government. NPP chief Conrad K Sangma’s party won 26 seats in the elections held on February 27. He along with other cabinet ministers will take oath as Chief Minister on Tuesday. The BJP and its allies retained power in Tripura and Nagaland, while in Meghalaya, the National People’s Party (NPP) emerged as the single largest party, with the saffron party later giving support to the regional outfit led by Conrad Sangma.
Manik Saha will be the Chief Minister of Tripura, will take oath tomorrow
Manik Saha has got a second term as the Chief Minister of Tripura. In the meeting of the BJP Legislature Party held on Monday, a consensus was reached on his name. Saha will take oath as CM on March 8. PM Narendra Modi will also be present on this occasion. Saha met Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya on Monday evening and staked claim to form the government in Tripura.
