Trinamool Congress Leader Derek O’Brien on March 16 asked the ruling government to allow the opposition leaders to speak in parliament. Derek O’Brien said, “What we are seeing in the last 4 days is a dubious record. It’s a dark history being set up here. The government itself is disrupting Parliament. They used to do this in a nuanced way and now they are doing it bracingly. That is why under the leadership of our Lok Sabha Leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay and in Rajya Sabha all TMC MPs went into the well before starting wearing black cloth and we were pointing to treasury benches and we were saying one line allowing the opposition to speak. BJP MPs and Ministers were on their feet.” Trinamool Congress MPs entered the Well of the Rajya Sabha on March 16 with a black cloth tied around their mouths as they registered a unique protest which led to the adjournment in both Houses. A similar protest was seen in the Lok Sabha as well. They kept pointing towards the Treasury benches and shouted “BJP Ministers and MPs are not allowing the opposition to speak. Not allowing the opposition to express themselves.”
